- "Design In China " exhibition at the recently held Art Gallery
With the economic’s taking off, the business community formation, institutional transformation and the upgrading of globalization, the pace of development of Chinese society was a bit taken by surprise. Chinese design is developing in this complex society, so it, of course, takes something with the taste of political, economic , historical and cultural. Design is fascinated by a wide range of physical image. It seems so rich, but it also seems to fell into a panic, without any direction. Facing the dazzling spectacle, should designed go into them, or just escape?
Italian designer Ettore Sottsass said, "Design for me is a way of life to explore." Design is such a kind of attitude, which is also a response to each person's attitudes toward life. Design should be filled with love. It tells me something about the feeling inside the designer's heart. Design should also be very caring. It is not power, which wants to be left to the user as a self-designed private room. "Design In China " exhibition is on this theme, and designers explain the attitude of their own designare through these simple and warm works .
The exhibition shows a collection of design works made by anothermountainman (WONG Ping Fai), multiphase studio, LU Yong-in, Xie Dong, Ye Yuxuan, Ishikawa, Wang Yang, Jia Li, Feng Liu, Mao Na and oho-oho. The exhibition guests includ Du Haibin, Gao Yan Jin Son, Hong Huan, Hu En Qi, Liang Dong, Liang Tao, Liu Qiongxiong, Shen Lihui , Sun Ganlu, Wang Xiaohui and Yin Shanshan . Guests, designers and curators Lide Geng, Hua Jiang and the Hai Jun made a discussion at the seminar on the design works as well as contemporary Chinese design approach.
Some of the works of "Design In China"exhibition shows their ideas through the small events of life, which touchs their feelings. Some thinks about the history, culture and social phenomenon. Others playing with naive delight simply. Everything is fine and smooth.
With "Impermanence", "Past and future" and other works, Huang Binghui shows the design of China's unique "Chan" in aesthetics. He believes that Chinese art has never been satisfied with the purely objective reproduction of reality. Most of the inspiration come from a deep understanding in the heart. When you lay on his sofa, you are thinking about the boundaries of life and death. When you put on his clothes or look at his watch, the picture that emerges is the time is flying. His attitude is to think about life.
Mao Na's "meet Boss" and "Rabbit Princess" will make you feel like being in the wild of a fairy world. You feel anxious but joyfully, and imagine the emergence of something strange, mysterious and interesting. Her attitude is wonderful fantasy.
Multiphase studio’s “wooden comb wooden chair” allows you to see that the pure monomer can also be a variety of changes miracle, and it makes you feel that persons can interact with the environment, and human limb movements can communicate with our environmental as well. His attitude is to explore the potential of the material.
Xie Dong is like a simple little girl, who fall in love with the air, water games. Her tea, look like watermark, paper crushed into pieces, and the swell of the air cushion. All of them are cute and innocent. Her attitude is to retain the fleeting beauties.
Jia Li's "Memory bench" evokes our nostalgic feelings of personal history. What is vaaluable is that he does not attempt to use the design to dominate everything or control the users' emotions, but allows users to become a part of the design, through which they can enjoy a unique personal memories.
Oho-oho is a “after 80” group. They do not get lost in the dazzling contemporary city, but try to immerse in the imagination of the life of the ancient. Their "light god tree" lightings look like the branches,the deep-sea coral. They reveal the mystery of primitive atmosphere, which is simple and dynamic. Their attitude is to break away from the pursuit of mere material desires.
Wang Yang's "shock (Double Happiness thermos flask)" evokes our thinking about the simple life. He used the brass to build the China early classical design, resulting in collision of luxury and minimalism. It shows the unique definition of happiness in China. His attitude is to pay attention to classical design.
Shi Yuxuan’s tea shows his attention to small things. They look like a falling drop of water, but also carries love. Today, there are too many things that interfere with people, stop our identify of the direction. Forget everything, and listen to his own heart sounds, then you can seize a moment's quiet. His attitude is thinking in silence.
Liu Feng’s series of furniture show something to explore the relationship between people and the environment. Whether his sofa, or cute animal benches, all tell us Liu Feng’s humanistic concern. Design would not exist by itself, and it must interact with people and the environment. How can we place the product into a certain environment, and how make it suitable for different groups of people is important. His attitude is to explore the distance between inside design and outside design.
Shi Chuan’s Forest series of bookcase give us small pleasures of nature. He believes that people should maintain their own personal space, and the house is the best place to relax. We do not want to refuse to exchange, but also do not want to parrot. We just want a space, which is easy, and privacy. His attitude is feeling himself.
LU Yongzhong’s "film Boat" and "walking" series tell us to look back to the long river of Chinese history. We always remember those that have already been collections without being used. What is the definition of family? Is it a bunch of things which are put together? Is it a place which is showing the history? Or is it just a small room filled with amenities? His attitude is collection.
